Why is Augustus such a key figure in Roman history?

What was his major accomplishments, His role in the Roman empire.


His legacy in the history of that time.Why is Augustus such a key figure in Roman history?
He was the adopted son of Julius Ceaser. He was bent on revenge for the murder.





He expanded the roman empire.


Octavian was a shrewd, brilliant and astute politician. Through cold, hard political calculation he was able to achieve ultimate power in Rome. At the time of Caesar鈥檚 assassination, Octavian held no official position. Only after he marched on Rome and forced the senate to name him consul, was he established as a power to be reckoned with.Why is Augustus such a key figure in Roman history?
By his victories in the Roman Civil War he established himself as the first Roman Emperor who had a solid basis for his rule. Starting with his reign, there was no question that Rome was an Empire with one ';legitimate'; emperor.
