I dont understand ways to figure this math out?

I know you can use d = the squar root (2rh + h squared)

r=earths radius in km

h is your height in km above sea level

is there anymore?I dont understand ways to figure this math out?
assuming you want a proof of your formula:

create a triangle using the height of mount everest (h), and the radius of the earth (r). you seem to have done that.

they form a right triangle. r and d (distance to the horizon) are the legs, and h+r is the hypotenuse.

by the Pythagorean formula, (h+r)^2=r^2+d^2

solving for d yields the formula above

this is the most straightforward strategy.

you could also use geometry and apply theorems regarding tangent lines and inscribing angles but that doesn't sound so fun.
