A computer or a multi-track recorder? I have a audio interface with firewire but I'm trying to figure out which would give me the best quality after my final mixdown. (I record my music using a computer software program)I have a home recording studio and I'm trying to figure out which would be better for my final mixdown?
As more and more people ';go digital';, it's getting easier to buy used multitrack recorders -- Fostex and others -- fairly reasonably. However, since your program material is already in the computer, it makes the most sense to stick with that throughout.I have a home recording studio and I'm trying to figure out which would be better for my final mixdown?
Greetings,
If you use a computer software program to record your music then it would make sense to use that program to mix down your final project. Think of it this way, your mix is already in a computer right? You are probably going to produce mp3's which you will upload to myspace and other mp3 based distribution networks right? People will most likely listen to your music on a computer so it only makes sense to not leave the computer.
Next, most multitrack recorders will not offer you all the flavors of digital music. mp3, m4a, aif, wav, etc. Keep it in the computer and you can blast off whatever format anyone should ever want.
Finally, I could mix down to old school tape with my Otari MTR 10 mastering deck (go look one of those up) or I could sub mix it through an SSL summing mixer or even blast it through my DDA but I choose to keep it in the box (computer) once I get it in the box. I find it to be much easier that way and offers fewer opportunities for ';bad events'; to happen.
