i have a old compac presario computer with windows XP on it. i have the four restore discs. when i insert the first disc nothing happens. i try to open the disk through my computer and it just opens the disk files and there isnt anything that will start the process. i want to restore it to the factory settings.....not a restore point!!! how do i start the restore process?I want to do a system restore on it but i cant figure out how to start the restore process?
Assuming the disks themselves aren't damaged, you might want to make sure that your BIOS is set to boot from the CD first and not from other sources like a floppy or hard drive. Each computer has a different way to access the BIOS. It involves pressing a specific key when you start the computer. Many systems use the F2 key but you might see a different prompt on the screen during startup.
NOTE: Once you know which key to press, the best technique is to start your computer and immediately start pressing the key. Keep pressing it until the startup screen appears.
Once you access the BIOS you'll most likely have to use the arrow keys, to navigate around. After you change the boot sequence you'll probably see an option to save the BIOS change and continue with startup. Before you click on that, open the CD drawer, insert restore disk # 1 and close the CD drawer. Now click save and continue with startup Hopefully the BIOS change will get you going and boot from that CD.
